Title |
BinHex (.hqx) files downloaded to a MAC with IE 5.x machine are corrupt |
Problem |
When downloading BinHex files to a MAC with IE 5.x, the files are corrupt. The file is not the correct size and will not decompress.
The default setting of Microsoft Internet Explorer in Mac OS X 10.1 is to automatically execute downloaded software, which could result in data loss or other problems. This setting can be changed.

Solution |
To prevent IE from corrupting BinHex files that are downloaded
you should take one of these two courses of action:
I. Download and install the Internet Explorer 5.1 Security Update. This is available via the Software Update feature of the System Preferences application.
II. Disable the auto-decode feature of Internet Explorer. Follow these steps:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Choose Preferences from the Explorer application menu.
- Click Download Options in the preference window.
- Click the checkboxes to deselect "Automatically decode MacBinary files" and Automatically decode BinHex files."
