Title
Error # 0x80070002 - SA-FileUp unable to register if 8.3 filename creation is shut off
Problem
During the standard installation, or while trying to register safileup.dll manually using RegSvr32.exe, the registration will fail when 8.3 file name support is turned off within the System Policy Editor.

During an automatic installation, the following error may also be seen:

"Can't run 16 bit windows program
Cannot find file ...setup.exe(or one of it's components). Check to ensure the path and filename or correct and that all required libraries are available."

This error is related to the same 8.3 filename creation issue.

See Microsoft's Knowledge Base article:

Solution
There are two possible solutions for this problem:
  • Turn on long file name support using the System Policy Editor. Open the Start menu, select Run, type regedt32, and click OK. Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window. Open,
    /SYSTEM
      /CURRENTCONTROLSET
        /CONTROL
          /FILESYSTEM
If, NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation:Reg_Dword is 1, change it to 0.

Then restart your server in order for this change to take affect.

You can change the setting back after installing FileUp.

  • Move safileup.dll to a folder which fits the 8.3 file naming convention.
