During installation of OfficeWriter v2, using an ExcelWriter EE or WordWriter EE key, an error occurs:
"While creating registry keys, the installer received this error: A registry key was invalid."
After clicking OK, the installation continues and completes successfully.

This error occurs due to a known issue with the OfficeWriter v2 installer where Reporting Services integration is installed but not successfully unlocked.

OfficeWriter for Reporting Services is included with the Reporting Services (RS) and Enterprise Editions (EE) of OfficeWriter, ExcelWriter, and WordWriter. This error can occur when using an ExcelWriter EE or a WordWriter EE key. The installer lets you choose to install the Reporting Services integration, but is not able to unlock the functionality.

The solution is to contact Sales to obtain an additional license key specifically for OfficeWriter for Reporting Services. Once you obtain this key, you will need to register it on your system.

To register the license keys on your system:

1. Run License Key Manager:
   • If you ran the automatic installer, go to Start, Programs, SoftArtisans, OfficeWriter 2.5 Windows, then click License Manager.
   • If you did not run the automatic installation on the machine, copy LicenseManager.exe from a machine that you did run the installer to the desired machine. This file is usually located at "C:\Program Files\SoftArtisans\OfficeWriter\". Run this file.
2. In the "Installed keys:" drop down list, select the "ExcelWriter v.5 for Windows" key. It should say Enterprise Edition. Write down this key if you don't already have it on hand from your original purchase. Click Remove, and then click OK on the dialog that pops up.
3. Enter your new OfficeWriter for Reporting Services key in the "New key:" box, then click Add/Upgrade. This will unlock OfficeWriter for Reporting Services functionality.
4. Next, enter your ExcelWriter EE or WordWriter EE key in the "New key:" box and click Add/Upgrade. This will unlock ExcelWriter EE or WordWriter EE functionality.
5. Go to a command prompt and type "iisreset" to restart IIS. This will cause these new keys to take effect.

You should now have ExcelWriter EE or WordWriter EE and OfficeWriter for Reporting Services functionality available to you. If you still have problems, please contact our Sales department.
